Talk about thinking outside the proverbial box! Mike Shapiro ran across a situation that got his wheels turning and churning and came up with a solution for using the Manufacturing module in a way that one would not normally consider. In this scenario, the client had not implemented CSMS or EMS but needed to track goods returned for repair by the customer. Take a read at this. It will give you a whole new way of thinking about how to get the most from what you have.

Let no widget go untraced. In this article, Dan Bolland shows how we can account for the components that go into the making of a finished good and trace them back from the Work Order by serial number. There is, of course, some setup involved, but that's okay, because Dan shows us exactly how to get the serial numbers set up and linked. Pretty powerful stuff!

In the first installment of Richard Berry's series on Project Costing, he gave us a broad conceptual overview of the process and analyzed where and how EnterpriseOne addresses Project Costing needs. Mike completes his three part series on Shrink - Scrap - Yield with this article on how the value of the Scrap produced can offset the cost of production. Toward the end of this article, Mike explains how the system can also handle a related topic - Waste products generated as a result of discrete production.
Michael follows up on his previous article on Shrink - Scrap - Yield with a detailed analysis of the cost implications of these aspects of manufacturing. As Mike says here, "with good data on what material losses are, where in the value adding process they occur, and what it might cost to correct them, management can focus efforts to get more product out for fewer dollars in." Those are the type of results you deserve to get from your ERP investment. Who else better to help you gain full value from your JDE investment, than a seasoned professional like Michael?

Are some of your Bill of Material components also sold separately as repair parts? If so, then you probably need to read this tip by one of our manufacturing experts, Rob Ekblad. Rob presents six different ways to handle this, with pros and cons listed for each alternative. The appendix includes screen shots showing the various alternatives in detail. Another perfect example of why JDEtips is here--to save you time by giving you the benefit of a master consultant's experience.
